What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback, also called EEG biofeedback, is a research proven way to help you improve your brain function through brain training exercises. Although the technology is complex, the process is simple, painless, non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical. It is just learning. You learn to alter your brain activity the same way you learn every other skill. You learn through feedback and practice.
BrainPaint is an evidence-based neurofeedback system that teaches your brain to balance and not be reactive in response to events out of your control. It activates the brain’s natural ability to form new connections in response to experience.
Brain training helps to bring the over-aroused or under-aroused brain into a more ideal state. A brain state where you can think, feel and perform in a more optimal way. BrainPaint has worked remarkably well in calming the traumatized brain and extinguishing conditioned negative responses and rebuilding healthy neural pathways. It can bring freedom to the traumatized.
People who have experienced trauma, addictions, fears and phobias, or extreme anxiety have what we call “software issues”. In other words, their brain goes into a survival response too easily in reaction to things in the outside world. Neurofeedback appears to work by training the brain to remain engaged rather than having a fight-or-flight reaction.
Neurofeedback improves the way you feel and function by improving the way your brain operates.
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
With neurofeedback we use the term “arousal level” based on the idea that different individuals perform better at different levels of arousal and that each individual seeks to find his or her optimum level. Many individuals use external stimuli to regulate their brain’s level of arousal:
- To increase their brain’s arousal levels a person may use caffeine, adventure, danger, a jammed schedule, or drama in their relationships.
- To decrease their brain’s arousal levels a person may use alcohol, pharmaceuticals, avoid crowds or isolate themselves for long periods of downtime.
- Some individuals need a combination of both to balance their levels of arousal.
With BrainPaint neurofeedback your brain waves are reflected back to the client both visually and audibly. When the brain sees and hears itself at work and areas of itself that are not working as efficiently as they could, it reorganizes itself by forming new neural pathways or activating unused ones to expand functionality.
In other words, the brain sees its weaknesses and trains them to become stronger.
Generally people notice improvements within the first 5-8 sessions, but this does not mean that you are finished. To achieve your goals and for longer lasting results 20-30 sessions are recommended. A minimum of 2 sessions per week are recommended for optimal results.
The gains made with neurofeedback are typically permanent.
Is Neurofeedback Right For You?
We cannot promise how you will respond to brain training. We are impressed though by the research supporting BrainPaint Neurofeedback as well as the results we have seen with our clients.
In a study of 16,490 clients using BrainPaint, after 20 sessions 80% reported issues were better or resolved as compared to same or worse.
BrainPaint Neurofeedback has been shown to reduce symptoms of:
- Autism and Asperger’s
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Headaches and Migraines
- Mood Swings
- Nightmares/Night Terrors
What is a Neurofeedback Session Like?
In your first session Dr. Regier, along with a Neurofeedback Technician, will talk with you about your goals for Neurofeedback. Based on the things currently detracting from the quality of your life, we’ll set measureable goals for your training. Your life, your goals!
After we’ve determined where you want to go we’ll map a route to get there. We’ll go through a series of questions, which will allow our sophisticated BrainPaint software to design a set of brain training protocols tailored just for you. Your progress will be tracked in subsequent training sessions.
In your second session your technician will put sensors on your ear lobes and scalp. It doesn’t hurt and nothing goes into your brain! The sensors pick up the electrical activity coming from your brainwaves and feed them back onto a big screen T.V. You will watch and listen and let your brain do the training.
It’s that easy!
Neurofeedback does not change who you are. It’s still you… but you in a better mood or with an increase in confidence, focus and performance.
